Police responded to an active shooter situation Saturday at Brown University near an engineering building on the Providence campus, according to the school’s alert system.

Two people were killed and eight were critically wounded at a shooting Saturday at Brown University, the prestigious Ivy League school in Rhode Island, the mayor of Providence told reporters.

Campus alerts had warned students of an active shooter and urged them to remain hidden until further notice, locking doors and silencing phones.
